Isaac W. Stuart was a Yale graduate, a classicist, historian, author, educator, and Federalist/Whig politician who lived most of his life in Hartford, Connecticut. This collection of his writings include drafts of his book on the life of Governor Trumbull, unpublished histories of the Charter Oak, the Stamp Act, Governor John Winthrop, and Vindications of the Early Puritans of New England. The collection also includes notes he took on assorted subjects from a number of sources, notebooks and school exercises, essays and speeches, notes and essays on Greek literature and history, a compilation of information about the 1842 U.S. tariff and the annexation of Texas and extension of slavery, political speeches published in newspapers, some correspondence, poetry and art work.
