Consists of 3 legal documents pertaining to Henry Delano Fitch's Sonoma County ranch, Sotoyome: an agreement, dated 1848 June 30, between Henry D. Fitch of San Diego and Joseph Manuel Carson of Mission San Gabriel, contracting to Carson for 5 years the care of Fitch's ranch; a petition to the honorable commissioners to settle private land claims in California, submitted by Fitch's heirs after his death in 1849; and a description, in Spanish, given by Eugenio Montenegro of his land adjoining Fitch's ranch, named Caslamayomi.

Biography Henry Delano Fitch, born in New Bedford, Massachusetts in 1799, first came to California in about 1826 as master of the vessel Maria Ester, owned by Henry Edward Virmond of Mexico.
