Letter from Schuyler, Poughkeepsie, New York, to Simeon DeWitt, surveyor-general, Albany, New York, February 12, 1788. The map, prepared by DeWitt, the legislature made use of while considering the bill for dividing the counties, would not have had any influence against local prejudices in making decisions; hardly a change has been made which would justify the expense of passing the proposed bill; expects alteration in laws relating to DeWitt's department, and asks suggestions; doubts wisdom at so late a date of the legislature's plan to transfer certain matters having to do with confiscated estates to DeWitt's department. Also includes explanatory notes on an unidentified map of a portion of New York state.
