The Baylor at Independence Records were acquired in six gifts and seven transfers during 1939, 1941, 1953, and unknown times. The initial gift was given by Mrs. H.W. Hughes in 1939. The collection begins in 1846 with correspondence, and goes through 1957 with a witnessed copy of an earlier deed. The bulk of the collection is between 1855-1883, the years Baylor was most successful in Independence. The literary series is the largest in the collection.
