Dr. Shelton H. Short III was born in Chase City, Virginia. He graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1948 and later received his doctorate from the University of Virginia. He has published internationally and for a time taught at the Univeristy of Edinburgh in Scotland. In 1972, Dr. Short was chosen as the Patrick Henry Scholar-in-Residence at Hampden-Sydney.
