Statutes of the Professorship of Law in Harvard University

1833

This folder contains a single document describing the rules and regulations of the Royall Professorship of Law signed by Simon Greenleaf in circa 1833. The document is divided into seven articles and is written on parchment. The statutes establish the authority of the Corporation to remove the professor, affirm the Corporation's authority to vary, modify, enlarge or change the rules and regulations of the professorship, require that the professor reside in Cambridge, and give the professor the right to discipline disruptive students. The statutes also affirm that the Dane Professor of Law is to be the head of the Harvard Law School and in conjunction with the Royall Professor develop a course of legal instruction.
