Articles of incorporation for the Hutterite Brethren of Spokane. This is copy of articles of incorporation filed with the State of Washington for the "Hutterian Brethren of Spokane, Inc." It lays out the rules of community property and how officers are chosen. The officers named in 1960 were Paul S. Gross, Chairman, Jacob Wollman, vice-Chairman, and Eli Wollman, Secretary-Treasurer, all of Lind, Washington.

Hutterites are a religious group with roots back to 16th century Europe. They are pacifists who live on communal farms and eschew many modern conveniences. A colony in the North American west started in South Dakota, but branched off into Canada. In the 1950s, Paul S. Gross, a minister and Hutterite leader decided to move his colony to Washington. They originally settled in Lincoln County in 1956 and established the Deep Creek colony, about 20 miles West of Spokane in 1960. Gross died in 1998. ...
