Salina Indian Burial Site collection, 1940-1995

Scrapbooks and loose materials, as well as color negatives of people covering bones and filling in the graves, relating to the Salina Indian Burial Site, an archaeological site for ancestors of the Pawnee tribe. The scrapbooks include publicity materials, photographs, newspaper clippings, correspondence, and other materials related to when the site was owned and operated privately as a tourist destination and concerning the later controversy over the State Historical Society possibly acquiring the site. Also included in the collection is "Pawnee Mortuary Traditions," an essay written by Roger C. Echo-Hawk, September 1988 with forward by Deward E. Walker, Jr., Ph.D.
