Brainard, past President of the Connecticut Historical Society, and Thompson Harlow, former Director of the Society, carried on a lively correspondence researching the origins of the seal of the city of Hartford. The seal reportedly was first used on a diploma presented to Hector St. John de Crevecoeur in 1785. The materials in this collection also include research notes, newspaper articles, pictures of the seal, and an embossing of the seal itself.
