Draft of a letter from Joseph Story to Harriet, ca. 1801.

A four-page handwritten draft of a letter on two leaves attributed to Joseph Story. The letter is only dated as "Monday afternoon" and is unattributed. In the document, Story responds to a letter from a woman identified only as Harriet that presumably requested their romantic relationship end due to objections from her parents. Story mentions the involvement of Harriet's cousin Pierce as an "obstacle" to their courtship, and describes himself as "your friend, your lover, your bethrothed."
