Charles O. Backman memorial book, 1933.

Consists of a manuscript book produced by the Buffalo, New York, Common Council in honor of former city clerk Charles O. Backman at the time of his death. The book is titled "In Memoriam" on the black leather cover, includes a watercolor of a basket of cut yellow roses by Buffalo artist Louis Plogsted on the third leaf, and is encased in a fitted cardboard box. A photograph of Backman is also included in the collection.

Charles Oscar Backman was a public servant for the City of Buffalo for 35 years. He began his career in 1895 as a stenographer in the City Clerk's Office and earned promotions to index clerk and chief clerk before being named city clerk in 1924.
