Miller and Webster family papers, 1802-1923.

Primarily correspondence of members of a Hartford, Connecticut, family. Henry L. Miller died in 1861 and Lydia Sigourney wrote a poem in his memory; a printed version is in this collection. Martha Webster Miller wrote several letters to her daughters Alice and Annie. Martha's papers also include a list of articles sold for her in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Alice's membership certificate in the National Geographic Society is also part of the collection. Ira Webster, Martha's father, is represented in the collection by a copy of an agreement made among his Yale classmates in 1802, and a biographical sketch. His son Daniel is represented by an essay, dated 1840. In addition, the collection contains several documents written in the same unidentified hand, and several unidentified manuscript and printed items.

Lydia Huntley Sigourney (born September 1, 1791, Norwich, Connecticut–died June 10, 1865, Hartford, Connecticut), poet, also known as the “Sweet Singer of Hartford", was the only daughter of a gardener.
