Frank P. Montgomery began at Penn State as assistant administrator at the McKeesport Campus in 1966. In 1976, he came to the University Park Campus as assistant director of the Division of Administrative and Field Services, in Continuing Education. He became the director of administrative services in 1987. In 1990, Montgomery was named by the National University Continuing Education Association to serve as a distinguished mentor. The Pennsylvania Humanities Council designated the year 1985 as "The Year of the Pennsylvania Writer."
