Two of the documents concern a bribery charge against architect William Curlett in 1892. He was charged with trying to bribe members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to accept the bid of a certain furniture company to furnish a building he designed. The documents contain the testimony of several witnesses against Curlett.The third document is a signed contract between William J. Kennedy, athlete promoter, and boxer and actor Victor McLaglen (San Francisco, 1910).

William Curlett (1845-1914) was born in Ireland and studied architecture in Dublin before he made his way to San Francisco by 1871. He went on to become one of the original members of the State Board of Architecture and was a fellow of the American Institute of Architects, according to the San Diego Historical Society.
