Mars Rover Sample Return Collection, 1986-1990.

The collection is comprised of materials collected by Donna L. Pivirotto, while she was Manager of Rover Systems in the Mars Rover Sample Return Development Flight Project Office (205), and as Section Manager of the Exploration Initiative Studies Office (215). It is organized into two sections, Reports/Studies, and Subject Files. Reports/Studies (Boxes 1-9; folders 1-72). These are filed chronologically. They include studies and reports written by JPL personnel, as well as studies and reports written by personnel outside JPL, such as reports of proposals written by the University of Arizona, California Institute of Technology, and Stanford University. Also included is material from workshops. Typical of this is material from the Rover Testbed Workshop (folders 65-68), held on February 1-2, 1990. Participants at the workshop included testbed suppliers, such as universities and industry; testbed users, such as scientists and engineers; and testbed developers, such as universities, international participants, industry, and government organizations. The three-ring binder that the documents were originally included in was divided by tabs into: Army, CNES, Draper Laboratory, FMC Corporation, Ford Aerospace, Honeywell, JPL, Martin Marietta, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Purdue University, Phillips Laboratories, Rice University, Remotec, System Dynamics International, Texas A&M, University of Michigan, and University of New Mexico. These tabular divisions have been retained. Subject Files (Boxes 10-15; folders 73-128). These are filed alphabetically, with the subject terms used by the records creator. Included in the subject files is a JPL Rover Chronological File (folders 83-84). These are an assortment of incoming and outgoing files, arranged chronologically between October 1989 and February 1990, from the Planetary Rover Studies Section (Section 622), managed by Donna L. Pivirotto. Also included are the meeting minutes for the Mars Rover Concept Team, from September 1987 to November 1989 (folders 89-94).
