Bumper 8 Fiftieth Anniversary Collection, 2000.

The collection consists of oral history transcripts, scanned images, an article reprint, two compact discs and two VHS videotapes, documenting the Bumper Veterans Oral History Project, occurring at the fiftieth anniversary celebrations of the first rocket launch from Cape Canaveral. The Group Oral History Project consisted of a group interview with eight participants and individual interviews with seven participants, all relating to the Bumper Project and the early days of rocket launchings at Cape Canaveral. The group oral history was conducted on July 24, 2000, at Kennedy Space Center. The interviewers for the group interview were Roger Launius, NASA Historian; and Lori Walters, Florida State University. Participants were William H. Pickering, Robert Droz, Herman Bank, Norris Gray, Elizabeth M. Bain, Robert Alley, Richard Jones, and Konrad Dannenberg. The transcript of the group interview is 63 pages in length. The two VHS tapes documenting the interview are 120 minutes and 32 minutes in length. The individual oral histories were conducted between July 24 and September 25, 2000. The interviewers were Launius, Walters, Stanley Starr of Dynacs, Inc., Elaine Liston of InDyne Corp. Participants were Robert Droz and Herman Bank (interviewed together), Konrad Dannenberg, Edward G. Belcher, Elizabeth M. Bain, Norris Gray, and Richard Jones. The interviews range from 22 to 42 pages in length. The master copies of the oral histories were made part of the permanent record in the historical reference collection at NASA Headquarters, at the Oral History Collection of Florida State University, and at the National Archives.
