Adlai Ewing Stevenson (October 23, 1835 – June 14, 1914) served as the 23rd vice president of the United States from 1893 to 1897. Previously, he served as a representative from Illinois in the late 1870s and early 1880s. The McLean County Coal Co. was the largest and most successful coal mine in McLean Co., located on the west side of Bloomington, Ill. It operated from 1867 to 1929. Financial backers included the financially and politically prominent Stevenson brothers, James B., William, and Adlai Ewing, who served as Grover Cleveland's vice president.
