Holograph letter, in pencil, from J.H. Guild to his mother, 16 January [no year given]. He is on the USS Constitution in Hampton Roads, VA and thinks the ship will be assigned to Port Royal, South Carolina. He describes scenes in Chesapeake Bay, Fort Monroe, Swell's Point, and the sighting of Confederate ships.
