Interview with brothers Albert Mack and Lee Earl Mack and Margaret Lee Harvey; attended Piney Grove School, an African American school in Laurens County, S.C., between 1936-1947; school began informally at the Piney Grove Church; one room school building; one teacher taught all grades; the school offered grades 1-7;children cut wood for fireplace; the school did not have electricity; students missed school to work on family farms; usually only attended when it was raining or weather prevented farm work; walked to school each day; did not wear shoes; on days they did attend school, they often left at lunch to go home and work; none of the three interviewed attended school after leaving Piney Grove School.
