Interview re the education and teaching career of Mattie May Young of Laurens County, S.C.; attended Bell Street (African American school in Clinton, (S.C)) from 1918-1929; attended South Carolina State and Allen University; completed a 2 year teaching certification program; taught in one room schools in Mount Pleasant and McCormick County, S.C.; taught in Elzee in Laurens County; where she taught out of the home where she boarded; 15-20 children attended; returned to Allen University and received a 4 year teaching certificate; returned to Bell Street to teach.
