Auburn T. Patch diary, 1862-1865.

This collection consists of a photocopy of a diary kept by Auburn T. Patch during his service with Company B, Second Vermont Regiment, Vermont Volunteers (1862-1865). In the diary, Patch recounts his experiences from 1862-1865. He mentions that he "left [his unit] without leave" in February 1863, near the beginning of the diary (page 12). He later provides a day-by-day account of what is likely the Battle of Petersburg (June 1864), though this record mostly includes only his descriptions of marching movements and the sound of fighting. Patch also writes about Lee's Mill, Williamsburg, the Battle of Richmond (McClellan's failed push to capture Richmond in 1862), Golding's Farm, Savage's Station and White Oak Swamp.
