Collection comprises published works, as well as manuscripts of books, short stories, articles, poetry and a musical, by American children's book author Quail Hawkins. Collection also includes book illustrations and several folders of correspondence, 1943-1973, as well as news clippings, photographs, and scrapbooks.

American Helene Anne Quail Hawkins (1905-2002) was a bookseller and an author of children's books. She began working for Sather Gate Bookshop in 1931 and eventually became head of the adult and juvenile departments. From 1954 to 1961 she worked in sales for the University of California Press before returning to Sather Gate Bookshop as a consultant on library services and book fairs.
