Benjamin Morgan Harrod papers, 1878-1910.

This collection consists of scholarly and professional papers of Benjamin Morgan Harrod of Louisiana. Professional papers primarily concern the construction of the Panama Canal, and Mississippi River flood control and navigation. Included are correspondence, student notes, minutes, reports, text of a speech, and printed photographs. Box 2 houses a printed volume entitled: Index rerum, or, index of subjects, intended as a manual to aid the student and the professional man in preparing himself for usefulness, with an introduction, illustrating its utility and method of use, by John Todd, D.D., 28th ed., Northampton, Mass., Hopkins, Bridgman, and Company, 1858. This is a volume of blank sheets, containing handwritten scholarly notes of B. M. Harrod.

Benjamin Morgan Harrod (1837-1912), son of Mary Morgan and Charles L. Harrod, was an engineer and served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was also a member of the Mississippi River Commission, the Isthmian Canal Commission, and the American Society of Chemical Engineers.
