Letters to James A. Rolfe, 1894-1898.

Four letters written to James A. Rolfe dating from 1894 to 1898. The date on one of the letters, written by Rosea Rolfe, is illegible due to damage, but appears to be 1890. In the letter, she writes of a misunderstanding relating to a job for James and begs him to return to Sherbrooke speedily. Two of the letters are written by James' cousins, Minnie G. Heath and Isa Rolfe. Minnie's letter, written while she was teaching in Coaticook, Québec and dated October 24, 1894, contains news about her job and about economic conditions in Coaticook, especially relating to the cotton and knitting mills. Isa's letter, written from Ascot Corner, Québec, gives details about family members and comments on the arrival of French-Canadians. The final letter, by Diana (Cole) Heath, James' aunt, written from Westbury, Québec, dated November 15, 1898, also gives family news. The collection also contains a single leaf from James' diary, dated April, 1895. On it he writes of boarding at the Hart's in Barre, Vermont and of the birds he sees while walking between East Montpelier and Barre.
