Weston A. Cate, Jr. (July 16, 1921-September 23, 2010) was born in Saint Johnsbury, Vermont, the son of Arlene Jeffords and Rev. Weston Cate. He grew up in Nashua, New Hampshire, and Auburn, Maine, and graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. He worked as an English teacher at the Hartford High School in White River Junction, Vermont, from 1947 to 1958. Louise Andrews Kent was born about 1887 in Brookline, Mass. She married Rich Kent in 1912. She became a newspaper columnist and author of children's books and cookbooks, assuming the persona of "Mrs. Appleyard," to write a series of New England cookbooks.
