The collection consists of typescript extracts from three items, including: Autobiographies of Australian & New Zealand Authors, twenty-five items, undated but compiled circa 1901-1920, containing formatted autobiographical data contributed by authors and artists (Stephens collected several hundred responses, but never published them); fifty-eight poems from The Boomerang, Dec. 1890-April 1892, each poem with publication date; twenty-one articles from The Bookfellow, 1910-1913, including profiles, reviews, sketches, and observations, each with original publication date.

Alfred George Stephens was an Australian editor, author, and literary critic, generally considered one of the key figures in the development of Australian literature. Born in Queensland and educated at the University of Sydney, he was extremely active as an author and editor, coming to national prominence as the writer of the Red Page literary reviews for the Bulletin.
