Samuel G. Bowdlear and Austin C. Wellington Correspondence 1862-1865.

This collection includes 107 letters, which were written between 1862 to 1865, of Samuel Bowdlear, a prominent Boston merchant, and Austin Wellington, a Union soldier in the 38th Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteers during Civil War. The letters of Bowdlear detail the social, political, military and economic events in wartime Boston and the surrounding areas. Austin Wellington, gives accounts of his life and events in the army, including events that relate to the Siege of Port Hudson, and the Battles of Mansura, Opequan, and Cedar Creek, and life and conditions in the Confederate States.
