Hyman George Rickover, U.S. naval officer, graduated from the U.S. naval Academy in 1918 and received an M.S. from Columbia University in 1929. He conceived the idea of an atomic submarine in 1947 and designed and constructed the nuclear powered USS Nautilus, which was launched in 1954. James Madison (1751-1836) was the fourth president of the United States, born in Port Conway, Virginia. He was a member of the Virginia legislature from 1776 to 1780 and from 1784 to 1786, and the Continental Congress from 1780 to 1783.
