Collection consists of papers relating to a proposed film adaptation of Malcolm Lowry's semi-autobiographical novel Under the Volcano, to have been directed by Luis Buñuel and to have starred Zachary Scott. Included in the collection are correspondence, script treatments, newspaper clippings, and a contract.

Luis Buñuel was born February 22, 1900 in Calanda, Spain. He was educated by Jesuits before going to Madrid to study at the University. There he met Salvador Dali and the two became friends. He moved to Paris where, in 1928-29 he made, with Dali, the short film Un Chien Andalou. This film contained such shocking images that it was banned for decades. Lowry, (Clarence) Malcolm was a novelist born in New Brighton, England. He spent time at sea before studying at Cambridge. His most recognized novel is Under the Volcano (1947), set in Mexico where he resided 1936-37. Other works include Ultramarine (1933), based on his early sea travel, and the posthumous Dark is the Grave Wherein My Friend Is Laid (1968).
