Louise Andrews Kent papers, 1910-1970 (bulk: 1960-1969).

This collection encompasses Louise Andrews Kent's entire literary career, although the amount of materials per title varies. It documents her thirty-four year relationship with her major publisher, Houghton Mifflin Company, with Vermont Life magazine in the 1960s, and with several other publishers. The collection contains research notes, manuscript and typescript drafts, galley proofs, final printings, and related materials covering the 27 books published by Louise Kent. Four unpublished books, various short pieces, magazine articles on cooking and other subjects, speeches and lectures, original poems, an original play, and a song are also included. The collection contains a wealth of raw notes, which formed the basis for many of her works. Also included are promotional materials for her books, copies of reviews, business correspondence, voluminous fan mail, and income and royalty information.

Louise Andrews Kent was born about 1887 in Brookline, Mass. She married Rich Kent in 1912. She became a newspaper columnist and author of children's books and cookbooks, assuming the persona of "Mrs. Appleyard," to write a series of New England cookbooks.
