Lewis Cass and Frances Dewey Laylin Papers, 1839-1934.

Papers of the Laylin family include correspondence of Lewis Cass and Frances Dewey Laylin their sons, Lewis and Clarence D. Laylin, and Dewey family correspondence. Lewis Cass papers date from his tenure as an Ohio state representative, Ohio Secretary of State and U.S. Secretary of the Interior, and include and memorial resolutions upon Laylin's death. Frances Dewey papers contain speeches, manuscripts, and reports about Campus Martius in Marietta, Ohio, and various political and social organizations to which she belonged, including Daughters of the American Revolution, Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs, Olla Podrida Club, Sorosis, and Women's Foreign Mission Society. The collection also contains an oversize certificate of certificate of appointment to the Commission to Revise and Consolidate the General Statute Laws of the State of Ohio (OVS 179), ephemera, and family photographs.
