On March 22, 1948, Iowa State College (University) sponsored a 90th anniversary celebration in honor of the founding of the college, which occurred on the same date in 1858 when the charter act establishing a state agricultural college became law. In 1892, Iowa State Agricultural College (Iowa State University) became involved in the Iowa Intercollegiate Baseball Association. The baseball program was Iowa State University's oldest varsity sport. After one hundred and nine years, the rich tradition of baseball at ISU came to an end in the spring of 2001.
