Sermon collection, 1940-1982.

The collection consists of typescript and handwritten sermons Havlik delivered at various churches, crusades, revivals, state conventions, and associational meeting events throughout his career. Most of the sermons are undated, but cover the period of Havlik's ministry from 1940 to 1982. Several of Havlik's sermons are messages about evangelism and witnessing. Other major topics and issues included in the sermons are stewardship, church growth, revivals, the role of preachers, and the social gospel. Several sermons about various books of the Bible are contained in the collection. A message on racism in Atlanta is also included.

The Home Mission Board began work in Cuba in 1886. Work in the country expanded for about a decade, but by the end of the Spanish-American War in 1898, nearly all mission activity had been demoralized. At the close of the war, the Board entered an agreement with the American Baptist Home Mission Society under which the eastern half of Cuba was transferred to the Society and the SBC's Home Mission Board retained the western half.
