A varied collection of correspondence, orders, receipts, and other documents relating to the business of the State of Connecticut. Includes receipts for growing hemp; accounts with Thomas Seymour, State Attorney; payment requests for soldiers serving in the Revolutionary War, and later widows applying for pensions; and summonses. A number of well-known Connecticut names may be found among the various papers. These include William Samuel Johnson, Joseph P. Cooke, Oliver Wolcott, Noah Phelps, Noadiah Hooker, Jeremiah Wadsworth, Daniel Wadsworth, Roger Sherman, George Wyllys, Erastus Wolcott, Samuel Huntington, Charles Chauncey, Andrew Kingsbury, Andrew Adams, William Williams, John Porter, Stephen Mix Mitchell, Roger Griswold, Tapping Reeve, Elizur Goodrich, and Charles Pond. A few interesting items include copies of records from General Assembly sessions; a report of orders issued by order of the Honorable Judges of the Superior Court of the State of Connecticut; State of Connecticut in account with Samuel Wyllys, Secretary of the State; an account with the Retreat for the Insane (1845-1846); and receipts for money for families of volunteers fighting in the Civil War.
