Pay table orders, 1782-1783.

Pay table orders signed by Connecticut Committee members Eleazer Wales, Oliver Wolcott, Jr., William Moseley, and Fenn Wadsworth. The orders were the balance due to soldiers for service in the Continental Army. Those serving were Samuel Teal, James Chittenden, Frederick Avery, William Jones, William Goodrich, Asaph Pettingal, and William Chambers. John Lawrence was serving as Treasurer at the time the orders were issued.

William F. Goodrich was the son of Amos Goodrich of Middlebury, Vt. In 1838 he went to New York State to sell beehives for John M. Weeks; letters from 1838 and 1839 to Weeks (in the Weeks family papers) describe his work. He appears to have returned to Vermont shortly afterwards and settled in Salisbury where he was a farmer. In response to the expansion of the Continental Army the number of staff was increased and reorganized in 1776. Changes included the creation of a new unit to supplement George Washington's personal staff.
