Schuppert family papers, 1837-1938.

This collection consists of handwritten and typed correspondence, legal and financial documents, newspaper clippings, and genealogical notes relating to the Schuppert and Banner families. The American papers mostly emanate from New Orleans, La., where the Schuppert family settled. Included are family birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates, emigration and citizenship papers, powers of attorney, wills, and a cemetery receipt.

Rudolph Matas was a prominent New Orleans, La., surgeon. During his career, he served as director of the NEW ORLEANS MEDICAL AND SURGICAL JOURNAL and Professor of Surgery at Tulane University, a post he held until he became Emeritus Professor in 1927. He also was a surgeon and consultant at Charity Hospital, Touro Infirmary, and the Ear, Eye, Nose and Throat Hospital of New Orleans.
