Biographical materials include information on Mr. Martin's years at Davidson and photographs as well as information on his family and wife, Dorothy. There are speeches from his years as governor. Most of the collection is printed material: campaign literature, clippings of political life and activities, receipt of honorary degree, information on "Fund for Science at Davidson College," and Executive Mansion in Raleigh, N.C. Memorabilia includes political campaign and inaugural pins, badges, bumper stickers and promotional material. The oversize folder contains information about the "Fund for Science Education at Davidson." James G. Martin, son of Rev. Arthur Morrison Martin and Mary Grubbs Martin, was born in Savannah, Ga., 11 December 1935. In 1960 he received his Ph.D. in chemistry from Princeton University. From 1966 to 1972, Martin served on the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners, serving as chair, 1967-1971. In 1968, he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention.
