James Hall letters, 1811, 1816.

Hall wrote both of these letters to William W. Woodward, a Philadelphia stationer and bookseller. The May 26, 1811, letter from Edenton, N.C., is a letter of introduction for Thomas H. Skinner, author and theologian, who wishes to form connections with religious figures like Drs. Green and Wilson. The June 4, 1816, letter from Lancaster County, Pa., concerns sending published Presbytery minutes and a light gig south via Petersburg.

James Hall was born in Carlisle, Pa., graduated from Princeton in 1774, and went to North Carolina in 1778 as a Presbyterian missionary. During the Revolutionary War, he organized a cavalry company for a raid into South Carolina, serving as both its chaplain and commander. He later participated in the Cherokee War.
