Mrs. Patrick Campbell correspondence and other papers.

The largest part of the collection contains letters from Mrs. Patrick Campbell to George Bernard Shaw, covering almost all the years of their long friendship. Some, but not all, of these letters were published in a volume edited by Alan Dent: Bernard Shaw and Mrs. Patrick Campbell: their correspondence. (New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1952). The letters cover theater and playwrighting in England and the United States, especially Shaw's own plays and Mrs. Campbell's roles in them. There is also much social commentary, news of politics and war, and especially near the end of the correspondence, a long discussion of the possibility of publishing the letters. Also included is one black and white photograph of a bust of Shaw, an autograph manuscript by Arnold Bennett concerning Mrs. Campbell, and a list of letters from Shaw to Campbell.
