Correspondence, receipts, financial accounts, and other papers re Pickens' participation in the Revolutionary War, interactions with Native American Indians, defense of the frontier during Early National period, national and state politics, family matters and education of his son, Andrew Pickens, Jr. (1779-1838) in Rhode Island, and other topics. The earliest item dates to the American Revolution: roster, 9 June 1779, "Return of the Detachment Commanded by Col. [Andrew] Pickens," listing total numbers of unnamed officers and soldiers; receipts, 24 Jan. 1780, from several individuals for African American slaves received from Andrew Pickens "as agent for the American Troops at Tarleton's Defeat"; letter, 4 June 1781, "Camp before Augusta [Georgia]," to Maj. Gen. Greene, re position of the enemy and preparation for battle; 3 letters, 22 June and 4 Sept. 1782 and 14 Sept. 1785, Long Cane and Greenwich, to John Martin and Samuel Elbert, governors of Georgia, re protection of the frontier against the Indians and plans for treaties with the "Southern Indians."
