Correspondence, speeches, articles, reports, newspaper clippings, and other papers of Seymour Simon, chiefly related to his service as president of the Cook County Board of Commissioners and mostly concerning the departments operated by the board, but including 14 Simon speeches, 1980-87, while serving as a Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court. Much of the correspondence is with members of the county board and its departments, with many letters to Mayor Richard J. Daley. Includes information on the Cook County Hospital and its School of Nursing, particularly personnel, facilities, rates, accreditation, the treatment of African American patients, and Simon's efforts to have more African Americans admitted to the nursing school. Other material relates to building and zoning matters, highways, traffic safety, law enforcement, and public welfare.
