The 21st Indiana Infantry Regiment was organized in July 1861 in Indianapolis and saw duty in Baltimore and New Orleans. In February 1863 it was changed to the First Heavy Artillery and served in the Gulf of Mexico region until it was mustered out in 1866. From the description of Records, 1861-1865.
