Personal papers of the Rev. Joseph Harrison Jackson, pastor of Olivet Baptist Church, Chicago, 1941-1990, and president of the National Baptist Convention U.S.A., Inc., the nation's largest African American religious denomination, 1953-1982. Includes sermons and sermon notes (topically and seasonally-arranged) and various divinity school papers; plus various topical files on theological, social, and political issues; correspondence regarding speaking engagements; and materials on the annual sessions of the National Baptist Convention U.S.A, including the controversial 1982 session. Also present are a few college papers (1920s-1930s) of Rev. Jackson's wife, Maude Thelma Jackson.
