John T. McCutcheon papers, 1898-1945.

Correspondence, financial records, manuscript drafts, research notes, speech transcripts, and other materials of John Tinney McCutcheon, journalist, cartoonist, and traveler. McCutcheon worked for the Chicago Morning News (later the Chicago Record) and the Chicago Tribune, and won a Pulitzer Prize for the best cartoon of 1931. The papers consist chiefly of material from McCutcheon's journalistic activity during the years 1898-1900 and transcripts of speeches from later years (ca. 1920-1945). Topics include India, the Philippines, the Spanish-American War, the Battle of Manila (1898), World War I, and the Chicago Zoological Society, of which McCutcheon was president.

John Tinney McCutcheon (1870-1949) was a newspaper cartoonist and war correspondent. Born in Lafayette, Indiana, McCutcheon graduated from Purdue University in 1889. After graduation, McCutcheon got a job as a cartoonist for the Chicago Morning News (later the News-Record; Chicago Record; Record-Herald).
