Holmes & Son (Chicago, Ill.) records, 1860-1861.

Financial ledger and cash book, 1860-1861, for Holmes & Son, a firm that dealt in produce and was located at 12 River Street in Chicago (Ill.), according to the city directory of 1861. The firm consisted of Samuel Holmes and his son Martin V. B. Holmes. The account books contain records of dealings with packing houses and amounts of beef and pork purchased. Among the names of firms with whom they did business are found: M. Belden, G. S. Hubbard, Hopkins & Co., William H. Piatt.
