Anonymous record book, circa 1912-1926.

A record book describing the condition, location, and extent of vital statistics (birth, marriage, and divorce) records and military records in several Louisiana parishes, as well as texts of selected documents. Most of the records the book catalogs date from between 1862 and 1880. It also includes descriptions of the boundaries of New Orleans wards, lists of justices of the peace in Jefferson Parish and Orleans Parish, lists of New Orleans veterans receiving pensions, rosters of soldiers in white and colored Louisiana federal Civil War regiments, and the marriage records of Rev. George Armstead of Napoleonville, La. Military rosters include: Orderly Sergeants in the United States Colored Troops, Companies A-C of the 2nd Louisiana Infantry Regiment (white), and Company F of the 10th Colored Heavy Artillery Regiment.

On May 22, 1863, the United States War Department established a "Bureau of Colored Troops" to promote the recruitment of African-American soldiers for the Union Army.
