Correspondence, manuscripts, speeches, meeting minutes, and other personal and professional papers of Emmett Dedmon, author and newspaper editor for the Chicago Sun-Times and the Chicago Daily News. Also included are eleven scrapbooks that consist mostly of newspaper clippings. Topics include Dedmon's service in the Army Air Corps during World War II; his professional and civic affiliations, particularly the American Society of Newspaper Editors (ca. 1966-75), University of Chicago (ca. 1975-78), Young Men's Christian Association (1965-70), and the Chicago Historical Society; and manuscripts of his writings, including Fabulous Chicago (1953) and Our Light-Hearted History of the Tavern Club in Its 50th Year, 1928-1978 (with Sarah Brown Boyden). Scrapbooks include clippings of articles, many by Dedmon, including reviews of theater, ballet, concerts, and books. Additional topics in the collection include Dedmon's interest in and travel in Asia (ca. 1972-77), particularly China and Japan.
