Congregation Rodfei Zedek records, 1933-1995.

Records of Congregational Rodfei Zedek, a Conservative Jewish synagogue located since 1950 at 5200 South Hyde Park Boulevard, Chicago (Ill.), consisting chiefly of papers of its longtime leader, Rabbi Ralph Simon (1906-1996), who served in that capacity from 1943 to 1988, when he became Rabbi Emeritus. Also present are papers of Rabbi Simon's successor, Rabbi Elliot B. Gertel. Rabbi Simon's papers include typewritten and handwritten sermons and funeral eulogies (1933-1980), sound recordings (reel-to-reel) of some from the 1950s; correspondence from and to Rabbi Simon about congregational matters (administrative, financial, and pastoral) and about his broader activities as a Jewish civic leader (e.g., as a member of the board of directors of the Jewish Federation, as a leader in citywide bond drives for the State of Israel), 1940s-1980s; and minutes of the Commission on Youth Welfare, 1958-1992. Also present are congregational files, such as lists of deceased members, 1946-1994, and religious school registration cards, 1950s-1960s. There also are several boxes of congregational correspondence and sermons/eulogies generated by Rabbi Elliot B. Gertel, 1988-1995, and minutes of the Hyde Park and Kenwood Interfaith Council, on which Rabbi Gertel served, 1989-1993.
