William Faulkner manuscript fragment and portraits, 1948, 1954, undated.

The collection contains a page 43 from a draft of "The mansion" in which Mink Snopes narrates the murder of Jack Houston with a discarded page 15 on the verso crossed out in red. The collection also contains a photograph of Faulkner by Carl Van Vechten, 1954 December 11. The collection also contains an original pencil portrait of Faulkner by Antia Boorstor, circa 1948, drawn for publication in "The Philadelphia Enquirer" to accompany the article "William Faulkner probes conscience of South" by Morton Fineman. The publishers clipping file copy is included, stamped with the publication date Sep 26 1948.
