Jennie Tate Anderson papers, 1900-1990.

The collection consists of the papers of Jennie Tate Anderson from 1900-1990. The papers consist of correspondence, printed material, subject files, and photographs. Much of the correspondence dates from the 1930s, when she was a student at Emory University and working at the Cobb County Department of Public Welfare. The subject files pertain to her work in the Garden Club of Georgia. The photographs consist of images of her immediate and extended family, as well as images that document her philanthropic work.

Virginia (Jennie) Tate was born on September 22, 1912 in Tate, Georgia. In 1916, after the death of her father, William Boyd Tate, her family moved to Marietta, Georgia. After attending Converse College (Spartanburg, South Carolina) for two years, she went to Emory University and graduated in 1933 with a bachelor's degree in History and Governmental Studies.
